Christiana look to surprise STETHS in daCosta Cup quarterfinals
When the ISSA daCosta Cup quarterfinals resume this afternoon, underdogs Christiana High will step onto the field with the belief that they can shake things up and upset former champions St. Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS).
The game is set for kickoff at Manchester High playing field.
Embracing the underdog role, Declan Nelson, head coach Christiana said they will have to keep their composure.
"We are not known as one of the schoolboy powerhouses, so we trying to do as best as we can to create history," Nelson said, noting the team wants to make the community proud.
Acknowledging that it won't be easy going up against the tough STETHS, Nelson said the team is happy to be in this position.
"Just like last Saturday's game, this will be tough matchup against STETHS. We have to be disciplined in how we play in order to get a favourable result," said Nelson.
With Group 2 teams on a point owing to a draw in their opening matches on Saturday, Nelson said today's match is a must win.
"Playing at home, it is very important to win because the group is wide open. Any team at this point can qualify for the semifinals. We believe that we can come out with a victory."
STETHS, with their dominance in the competition over the past decade, will start as favourites to win today.
However, matches aren't won on reputation and STETHS head coach Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn said his team needs to execute the game plan.
"We just need to ensure we execute what we did in training, be focused and ready to go up against our opponents. We cannot dwell on the result from Saturday's game," said Wedderburn.
