General Manager of reigning Jamaica Premier League (JPL) champions Harbour View, Clyde Jureidini, claims there is a surge in interested participants for the staging of the Youth Reggae Cup, which is being hosted in honour of Harbour View's 49th year of existence.

According to Jureidini, interest in the March 11-12 Reggae Cup to be held on the field at Harbour View, is coming from schools, academies and clubs across the island.

"We are happy to see, in the second edition, that it has grown so far from 21 teams up to 34 and even since Thursday morning, we have had a few other queries, so we will see by deadline (today) if we have any more," Jureidini stated.

The Youth Reggae Cup will be divided into four sections - Under-7, Under-9, Under-11 and Under-13. It has, so far, drawn interest from seven parishes, and the experienced football administrator believes the numbers could increase.

"It has been like this (interest) and is continuing. Some new persons, even from as far as Montego Bay, have contacted us, so we are waiting to see how many will follow through ahead of the deadline to see where we will go.

"We'll have a wide cross-section of coaches coming from Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, heavy representation from Manchester, Clarendon and St Elizabeth, along with a wide cross-section of academies, schools and clubs," Jureidini added.

According to Juriedini, the two-day age group football competition has Cumax Wealth Management Limited as the title sponsor and could have more backers on board in the coming days.

Jureidini hopes the additional sponsorship will help reward not only the players participating but also parents and supporters.

"The main sponsor Cumax Wealth Management is on board, and we are in discussions with some other sponsors, hopefully, they will come on board. There are others who we are currently exploring as well, so in the next week or so, we hope to see if we can tie up some more offers all round to share with the players, parents and supporters," he stated.
