Woman beater yet to compensate victim
Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque stressed on Thursday that Jovaney Stephenson, the man who was captured on amateur video kicking his children's mother, has to make compensation for the embarrassment and injuries she sustained from the incident.
"The lady was battered, she came to court and the lady was battered on the road, just a stone's throw from the court. So I am serious about her getting the compensation and perhaps she might need some counselling with that sort of embarrassment," the senior judge remarked, after being informed that Stephenson had no monies to begin compensation.
The matter was last before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in January when Judge Cole-Montaque ordered Stephenson to make compensation. A sum was not agreed.
The woman is said to have suffered two broken fingers.
"It's a long way back to recovery," the senior jurist said.
The matter was adjourned until April 19 for Stephenson to make contact with his relatives. At that time, he is expected to be sentenced for unlawful wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. - T.T.
