A man who led police to his home to prove that he was a produce farmer ran into trouble when lawmen found 50 pounds of weed at the dwelling.

Andre Love pleaded guilty to possession of and dealing in ganja on Wednesday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. It is reported that on May 27, police on patrol in Bull Bay, St Andrew, were called to a scene where Love was tied to a tree by residents. Police noticed a bulge in Love's waist and when he was searched, they found $402,000 in $1,000 and $5,000 notes wrapped in a black plastic bag and tied with a piece of string.

SUPPORT THE CLAIM

He was asked to account for the money and Love explained that he was a farmer who reaped peppers and other ground provision and even directed the police to his home to support this claim. On entering his house, a strong scent was evident to the lawmen. A thorough search of the home revealed large quantities of green vegetable matter resembling ganja. He was cautioned for the offences, to which he said "Offica, we can work out summen, enuh." Despite pleading guilty, Love disputed the amount of weed that was found.

"Excuse me Your Honour, it could have never been 50 pounds of weed. It's probably 10 to 15 pounds, no way it could be 50. I am a farmer in weed and I smoke weed. Me clean it up and it couldn't be 50, probably 17 pounds. It cannot more dan dat," Love told parish judge Venise Blackstock-Murray.

Taking into consideration his guilty plea, the judge said she would impose the sentence of the court but was minded to offer him bail first. However, the investigating officer shared that Love was in custody for a wounding with intent matter from 2018, in which he is the suspect. Given that disclosure, Love was further remanded in custody by Blackstock-Murray until July 5. He was made the subject of a fingerprint order and a social-enquiry report was requested.
