From fête to playground - I Love Soca and Daydreak patrons get their fill
In true Jamaican spirit, the Independence Day celebrations got their start on Friday night with Best Weekend Ever taking over the parish of St Ann.
I Love Soca at Grizzly's Plantation Cove was the first to the pitch, scoring several home runs with its offerings. In addition to a diverse disc jockey roster, Kes added to the entertainment highlights, and there was an unplanned stage appearance of dancehall deejay Laa Lee, accompanied by track and field legend Usain Bolt to teach fete-goers the popular dance move 'Leggo Di Bird'. The set-up from entrance to the food court was practical and easy to navigate.
Season band holders could say they had their fill of the soca, dancehall, and hip-hop music genres, but in a few hours, many found themselves getting a taste of the second event on the line-up, Daybreak Breakfast Party, at the same venue. It was transformed into a playground for locals and foreigners coming together to consume a wide menu of breakfast options and soak in the culture. Jamaica was represented in live and living colours, as black, green and gold decorated the venue.
Here are the highlights.
